Surefire Ways to Protect Your Kids at Sports Clinics

2 boys playing soccer on green grass field during daytimeSummer sports clinics pop up every year. They generally offer great ways for young people to brush up on their game. Still, parents who want to enroll the kids in these activities must do their research first. Let’s look at some of the ways you can guarantee your child’s safety whenever they take part.

Before you send your kids out the door, make sure they have support behind them. Their physical, mental and personal security should remain your top priority. Make sure it stays with them even when they are outside of your supervision.

Do Your Research on the Clinic

Most sports clinics run professional, well-regulated programs, supported by reputable organizations. However, there will always be bad actors that you might need to steer clear of. Make sure the clinic has the right credentials to supervise and protect your kids.

Not only that, not every clinic is right for every child. You might not want to enroll a beginner player in a tennis clinic for kids who are trying to make a high school team. It’s usually not a good fit, including from a safety standpoint, not to mention a potential waste of money. Vet the organization to make sure your child will feel comfortable there.

Make Sure Your Child Goes Prepared

During the enrollment process, submit all required information back to the clinic organizers. They’ll have the right information to protect your child as needed. Submit any participation waivers, as well as medical or special needs information about the child. Also, make sure they have your phone number, home and email addresses.

Don’t drop off your child without guaranteeing their comfort and safety. Make sure they have appropriate shoes, helmets and other gear. Send sunscreen, snacks, bug spray and other necessities when needed. Don’t assume the clinic will provide these materials.

Ask the Clinic About Insurance

The last thing you want to see is your child sustain harm at a sports clinic. However, accidents can happen even in the best situations.

Most clinics recognize these risks. So, they often carry various forms of liability and participant medical payments insurance. With coverage, players and their families often can get help paying for the resulting personal or medical costs. Ask the clinic how their insurance works, as well as how they acknowledge responsibility for accidents. In many cases, they’ll provide this information automatically upon enrollment.

Sports clinics are great fun for your kids, as long as you let them participate safely. Do your research as a parent, and make sure they go with the right protection.
